to find Benfield School Hall - travel along Old Shoreham Road towards Portslade until you get to the turn-off to the bypass and find somewhere to park (No Parking in the School at all! But there is a large supermarket nearby). The school is up the hill on the left hand side and slightly set back from the road, but you will see our banner. Busses 2, 6 and 46 take you there and it is a 5-minute walk from Portslade train station.

The show will be 2 hours long, including the interval (refreshments and raffle). We don't usually sell out but the matinees get very full. We don't reserve seats but there are benches at the front for all children.

Jim's Underwater Adventure, our panto in January 2008

Drama for Fun is a non-profit community Amateur Dramatics group in Portslade near Brighton, East Sussex. Our plays so far have been conceived and written by the group but we are thinking of also producing plays written by other playwrights. Drama for Fun used to be an adult education class at Portslade Community College taught by Saskia Wesnigk-Wood. Every year the students would say: "We want to do a play!" So eventually it happened and this group is the result. Lily and the Magic Book was our first production as an independent non-profit community group.

Here is a list of the plays we have written and performed so far:

Ocean Liner (Hilarity on the High Seas; 7f, 4m),

In a Murderous Manor (9-10 f, 3-4m)

Pantos and shows for children:

Lily and the Magic Book (a topsy-turvy pantomime; 9-10 f, 4-5m, 2 children);

Lily's Magical Quest, another adventure with our favourite heroine (9-11 f, 4-5 m (some doubling) 7 children in one or two scenes only)

Jim's Underwater Adventure - a fishy tale (3 m, 7 f, children)

George and the Dragon (a 10-minute narrated play, 4m, 5-10 f, children).

Toys in Trouble! (a panto for all ages, 13 actors, 3-4m, 9-10 f, children)

Panto Galactica - A Space Adventure (A panto for all ages, 14 actors and children)

PantoSaurus Rocks (A Stone Age panto for all ages, 15 actors and children)

Sketch Shows:

The Banana Dialogues - all about Bananas

Tarts, Nibbles and Allsorts - sketches about food and travel

So last Century! - one for each decade

Are you looking for a show for your amateur dramatics company? All our plays, pantos and sketches can be hired for performance for a small fee. Please contact us for further details maildrama4fun.com.

You can find out more about these plays on our "previous productions page".

Drama for Fun is looking for new members, so if you are interested in acting, writing plays or helping back-stage, let us know. As we rehearse in the evenings, we cannot have children under 16 joining the group, though they may appear on stage in small roles if they are the children of group members. There is a £20 membership fee and a £5 monthly subscription. We have regular meetings, a constitution and a membership agreement form which you would need to sign.
